In 2011, I was invited to join the board as their Official Career Coach for the Salt Lake Chapter of the American Marketing Association. Being a part of the marketing community is really rewarding because these smart, creative communicators love to grow and develop their careers. I've enjoyed teaching classes for the members and watching them grow in their career management knowledge. It's an honor to be invited back - year after year - to support their cause.
Since 2009, I have been very involved with the leadership of this organization because I deeply believe in the mission of "growing moral and ethical leaders around the world". I recently finished my role as President, where the Salt Lake Chapter grew it's membership by over 30% and committees were developed and systematized for efficiency. Working with a group of volunteers, I find structure critical to the success of the organization. Raising scholarship money to send over 250 students (so far) to college is a wonderful highlight!
I'm worried that women don't include themselves in professional networking circles, so in 2009, I founded Salt Lake Women - the women's initiative of BYUMS. Early on, we had few women participate in the luncheons and networking events, but over time the numbers have steadily increased. I think it's important that both men and women network effectively with each other - both genders offer a lot to the business community and we're all strengthened by solid business relationships.
