CalendarEek! Can you believe it – there are 100 days left for 2016!

What are you going to do with these last days of the year?

How will you take advantage of the precious commodity of time?

Often I hear people say that they just don’t have time to manage their careers. People are busy during the day, working through lunch, staying late to finish projects, racing home to family obligations, crashing on the couch to unwind from the day, then back at it the following morning.

The question is: How do we create time to better manage our careers? A couple ideas:

  • Dedicate at least one lunch per week to having lunch with someone outside the company. This will help to get away from the desk as well as strengthen professional network outside your current employer.
  • You get about 22 work days per month, so isn’t it possible to find one of those days to go to a networking meeting related to your industry? This will help you to build your network of professional contacts.

If you were to do either or both of those ideas, it’s not adding more to your work schedule, rather it’s better using your time to develop your network of contacts…

One day you might find yourself laid off. If that happens, how are you going to feel about all those lunches you worked through? Whatever you do, there are 100 days left of 2016, so do something today to manage your career.

How are you going to use your time?
