Happy 2018, my friends! I welcome the new year with wide open arms and joy and excitement!

There is much we can do with our time, so that’s why I find it important to focus in on one main thing at a time. There is too much to accomplish and without focus, it makes it really hard to get anything accomplished.

Sure, I love to have a whole landscape spread out in front of me so that I can enjoy a vast beautiful picture. But, when it comes to career goals, narrowing the view to one part of the whole landscape makes it much easier to have success.

One way that I accomplish more is by having one word to focus on for the year. I don’t like New Year’s Resolutions because it feels crappy when I get to the end of the year and didn’t accomplish the resolutions. Instead, I focus on one word for the year. You’ve seen me blog about this one word concept before… I have been doing this for 7 years now and I LOVE IT.

For 2017, my word was “book”. Most of the year, I spent a lot of my extra time writing, re-writing, working with an editor and accountability partner to help make the book happen. Even though I didn’t finish the book in 2017, I got really far in the process – I’d say I’m about 90% done.

At this point, I need help with naming the book… So, if you’re interested, use this link to answer a very short one question survey to give me feedback on book titles. (NOTE: The survey closes on Friday, February 9, 2018). It feels good to be on the other side of 2017 and look back to see how far I’ve come in accomplishing this big goal of writing my first book!

With 2018 now here, I have a new word of the year… but it’s much more personal, so I’m not going to share. I might share another time, but for now, I’m keeping the word very close to my heart. Instead of the whole landscape of options, I encourage you to find one word to focus on for 2018.

If you feel so inclined to share, let us know your one word for the year in the comments below.

To your career success,
