I know that you have a lot going on in your life. It’s likely that you’re busy with many roles in your day, possibly including:
- Spouse
- Parent (and/or bonus parent!)
- Sibling
- Neighbor
- Team member
- Church member
- Civic role
- Etc.
With each of those roles, you have a lot on your plate. I have so much going on that I have even tried to make my plate bigger and have a platter, but then it just gets too crazy so I’m back to a plate. I keep pestering all my engineering friends to create a time machine so that I can have more time in a day to accomplish more. While no one is creating a time machine anytime soon, I guess we have to get real about what is going on with our days.
While I’m bummed that none of them have created the time machine yet, I still can’t shake the desire to do more each day. Do you feel it too? Do you want to do more with each day? Well, let me change your perspective for a minute… Instead of wanting to do more each day, stop and be grateful for all the cool things that you ARE doing each day.
In each of your roles (spouse, parent, team member, etc.), you are accomplishing things each day. Sure, you may want to accomplish more, but first start with being thankful for your abilities to do what you CAN do each day. I highly recommend that you have a gratitude practice in order to notice more about your day. I usually do my gratitude practice in the morning, but you can also ponder at the end of the day on what you’re grateful for in your life.
Give gratitude journaling a try and you’ll notice that you are ALREADY accomplishing a lot of great things in your life and likely you’ll have more appreciation for the amazing things you’re a part of today… even if you still want to do more.
Even if no one else is noticing what you’re accomplishing, you’ll feel better about what you ARE doing each day. It feels great to review what you have been accomplishing and see your own progress.
